The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is an independent, skills-based assessment program which recognises and rewards student achievement. The assessments comprises of English, Maths, Science, Spelling, Writing and Digital Technologies. Students from over 20 countries including Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and the USA participate in ICAS each year.
Students at St Christopher’s sit annually for the ICAS test which is designed to challenge a student’s knowledge and understanding over a spectrum of levels of difficulty. In addition to a Student Report, each student that participates receives a Certificate which is awarded to acknowledge, encourage and reward students’ academic achievements at a Whole School Assembly.
High achieving students at St Christopher’s are offered an opportunity to participate in G.A.T.E.WAYS programs. G.A.T.E.WAYS is an independent, non-funded organisation that provides opportunities for highly able and gifted children with special educational needs. Students can participate in programs that will challenge them intellectually and help develop their individual talents. Both short and longer term programs in most areas of the curriculum are offered.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
St Christopher’s encourages students to participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge each year. The Challenge promotes a love of books by encouraging children to read more widely. For students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 the challenge is to read or ‘experience’ 30 books by themselves or with the assistance of a family member or friend. For students in Years 3 to 6 the challenge is to read 15 books.
